Pregnancy

Chinese Medicine can be used to treat many issues that may arise during pregnancy, such as morning sickness, tiredness and back pain . After chilbirth the mother can be supported by strengthening her system and treating post natal problems such as mastitis or post natal depression. Chinese Medicine is also effective for infertility.

Inducing labour

Acupuncture has long been used to induce labour, and has a high success rate. If you are past your due date, acupuncture is a safe and effective treatment to naturally encourage labour without resorting to more artificial chemical methods such as prostin gel or ARM (artificial rupture of the membranes).

The treatment involves the stimulation of certain acupuncture points that are said to ‘downbear Qi’ – that is, they have a strong downward moving action. They also help to dilate the cervix, and when used in combination they encourage the natural initiation of labour.

You will also be shown how to locate some of the points and taught how to perform simple acupressure, so that you or a friend or partner can reinforce the treatment at home.

Breech Presentation

Breech presentation is very often treated by acupuncturists, and has a very high success rate (approx 65%). Even better news is that no needles are used in the treatment!

This treatment used moxibustion, which is the gentle application of heat to a point (in this case on the foot.) Only 1 treatment is required, during which time you will be shown the procedure which you can then carry out at home either on your own or with the help of a friend or partner.

You will be able to feel once the baby has turned, at which point you just need to arrange to be checked by a midwife to make sure that baby is in the right position.
